BUSINESS STUDIES

After the elevation of the Northern Province Affiliated University College as Vavuniya Campus of the University of Jaffna, two Faculties Faculty of Business studies and Faculty of Applied Science have been established.

In case of Faculty of Business Studies, the first intake took place in 1998 and the students from Commerce and Arts stream were admitted to this Management II course in 1997/1998 academic year.

In the Faculty of Business Studies, there are two different curriculum designed to award the degree of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) respectively. In case of BBA, the curriculum was designed in 1996/1997 in order to teach the student who were admitted to Management II course.

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT

The Department of Economics & Management has been established under the Faculty of Business Studies in April 1997 after the elevation of Northern Province Affiliated University College, as Vavuniya Campus, of the University of Jaffna. This is a multi disciplined department comprising six permanent staff members including Dean and the Head of the Department. Staff members are specialised in different fields such as Money & Banking, Management Information System, Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, Applied Statistics and Agricultural Economics. There are two specializations called Marketing and Business Economics offered to the students by this department. Under the IRQUE project, the Head/ Economics & Management represents as the Faculty representative of the Quality Assurance Unit of the University of Jaffna. Further the Department submitted its Self Evaluation Report in 2006 to the QAA Council for subject review and the team visited for review in March 2007 and submitted a favourable Subject Review Report regarding the department in May 2007 and the report is confirmed by the QAA Council. Further, the senior staff members in the department are actively helping the postgraduate programmes of other Universities and it has taken forward steps to start a Postgraduate Diploma programme in near future.

DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTANCY AND FINANCE

Accountancy and Finance department has an aim to produce good Accounting Specialized Students through implementing and innovating different methods. In this competitive world, students may have to face several challenges from environment. Even students have theoretical knowledge with certain Honours; they are unable to face any other interviews or other skill development program. But these problems are being broken down by our department and our students are able to face interviews without any fear. There is two permanent staff one temporary staff. And there is a permanent staff cadre going to be filled in future.
